This Was Supposed to be a Video

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Originally I planned on uploading a video today, but we’re having some compatibility issues with new hardware / software.
Instead, lets talk about what we’ve been doing the past two weeks.

Most of the work has been on consistency at different frame rates and fixing physics related glitches / exploits. Animation has been improved slightly, Bump now moves more smoothly and can duck to avoid certain enemies and obstacles. We’ve also improved light switches significantly, which is good because they will become one of the main elements of many of the puzzles in the final game.

I’m going to try to make little status updates like these a regular thing, so long as I have something to post.

New Lights

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Heres a work in progress shot of the improved lighting we’re working on.

It’s not quite done yet, but it looks much better than before.

Merry Christmas and Other Winter Solstice Holidays!

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Between visiting family, getting sick, and playing  Super Meat Boy, I haven’t posted anything on here in over a month!  Well Bump now has other monsters to interact with! Some are scary (example on left), some are just weird (example on right).  Bump will run into many monsters on his journey. Some  will try to eat him! others he’ll need to get help from! the rest will probably mind their own business.

More things to come, but for now, everyone enjoy their time off of work, school, or whatever it is you normally do.

Music (not dead)

Friday, November 19th, 2010

No, We aren’t dead, just busy.

We’ve received several comments about the music in the trailer video. The song is by Airtone and is available on CCMixter . We like ccmixter. The music is licensed under various versions of the Creative Commons License which means it’s free to download, and free for just about any use, provided you follow the requirements of the specific license.

At the moment most of the music in In The Dark was found through them and I expect a lot of music for future projects will be as well. For more on Creative Commons, go here.

Happy Halloween!

Level Editor?

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Originally this level editor was just a tool to make level design easier for us, but after some tweaks to make it a little more user friendly we’ve decided that it should ship with the game. This means that anyone will be able to make their own custom levels. This is just a snapshot of a work in progress, the final version will likely look very different.

Hey, a Video!

Aww snap!

More screenshots. Videos soon to come

Friday, October 15th, 2010

Posted a couple more screenshots which should be visible in the gallery in the previous post. We’ve done a lot this past week and we should have some videos up in the next few days if we have time. Look for more updates soon.

Progress is steady, but still much to be done.  Heres a few early screenshots of mostly finished levels:

New Project: In The Dark

Monday, October 4th, 2010

This is Bump, the main character in our current project.

He is a monster who lives under a kid’s bed. But when his family moves into a new house Bump gets left behind, and has to find his way to his new home.

The problem is that Bump can’t move through light, in fact light is completely solid to him.

Bump must navigate his way across town before sunrise if he ever wants to get home!

In The Dark will be a 2D puzzle / platform game using a lot of physics.

I will be posting more details soon.
