Art Contest!

August 14th, 2011

We’ve decided to run a little art contest for In The Dark and we’re asking people to make up their own monsters!
You can submit an entry by posting it on Deviant Art and sending a message to us through Kytri.

Here are the rules:
– Monsters in the game are all black with white features such as eyes and mouths, so stick to that.
– Please try to keep your designs from becoming too complicated so that we can convey its motions as a silhouette.
– You’re allowed to submit more than once, but only one will be chosen per person.
– When you post your submission, please link to our kickstarter page: http://kck.st/o0trUC
– The dead line is Monday, August 22nd

The prizes are as follows:
1st : You will receive a copy of the game and your monster will be in it!
2nd and 3rd: You will receive a free copy of the game when it comes out!

Good luck to everyone who enters, we look forward to seeing your ideas!

New Gameplay Video!

August 10th, 2011

Check out our new video!

This shows more clips of actual puzzles than our previous videos; more puzzles, monsters, and ridiculous things to come!

Kickstarter

July 27th, 2011

We have a Kickstarter page now! Check it out!

Any contribution helps, for $20 you will get a copy of In The Dark when it comes out! Give more and you can get other cool stuff. Please take a look.

If we can meet our funding goal, In The Dark could be finished in a matter of months. We need money to get some hardware for testing on, and if we can cover basic expenses for a few months we can work on the game full time.

Whats new?

July 25th, 2011

Its been about a month since the last update. We’ve been a little busy and I’ve forgotten to post anything. What have we been up to?

A lot of work has been going into getting the map editor to the point that anyone can use it. It does a much better job at properly saving and loading things, and pretty much everything can be created in it in a more WYSIWYG style.

Also a lot of random technical things, such as physics bugs and memory leaks have been patched.

We’re starting to concentrate more on designing puzzles and boss monsters, it looks like we’ll probably end up with 3 to 5 bosses total, still lots to be done. We’ve got some stuff coming up later this week, so expect another post soon.

This Was Supposed to be a Video

June 20th, 2011

Originally I planned on uploading a video today, but we’re having some compatibility issues with new hardware / software.
Instead, lets talk about what we’ve been doing the past two weeks.

Most of the work has been on consistency at different frame rates and fixing physics related glitches / exploits. Animation has been improved slightly, Bump now moves more smoothly and can duck to avoid certain enemies and obstacles. We’ve also improved light switches significantly, which is good because they will become one of the main elements of many of the puzzles in the final game.

I’m going to try to make little status updates like these a regular thing, so long as I have something to post.

Back to Work

June 3rd, 2011

Various things (mostly hardware issues) made this take about a month longer than it should have, but we can now dedicate more of our time and energy into getting In The Dark finished.  A lot of things have been rewritten from the ground up. We’re working on several new animations and monsters, the map editor is now more intuitive, and the game is more stable in general. Perhaps most importantly, I will be posting updates more often.

Complications

March 28th, 2011

Our lives have been in the way of development these past 2 months, but that shouldn’t last much longer.

Luckily, we have still been able to get some work done. In The Dark now has a lite mode which in testing runs quite well on netbooks and other low end PCs, and sometime soon we will be posting another video so you can see some of the other monsters in action.

New Lights

January 20th, 2011

Heres a work in progress shot of the improved lighting we’re working on.

It’s not quite done yet, but it looks much better than before.

Merry Christmas and Other Winter Solstice Holidays!

December 21st, 2010

Between visiting family, getting sick, and playing  Super Meat Boy, I haven’t posted anything on here in over a month!  Well Bump now has other monsters to interact with! Some are scary (example on left), some are just weird (example on right).  Bump will run into many monsters on his journey. Some  will try to eat him! others he’ll need to get help from! the rest will probably mind their own business.

More things to come, but for now, everyone enjoy their time off of work, school, or whatever it is you normally do.
